Police at Nkhunga in Nkhotakota have made an arrest in connection to a recent break-in at a phone accessory shop.
A 25-year-old man, Sumaili Lyton, has been taken into custody on suspicion of breaking into Alexander Kaunda’s shop and stealing items worth K5.2 million.
According to Thandiwe Mshanga, the police public relations officer at Nkhunga, the break-in took place at Dwangwa trading center yesterday.
The suspect stole a total of 24 cellphones, 81 keypad LCD screens, 47 cellphone batteries, 30 touch screens, 20 pieces of wrappers, and 439 pairs of shoes.
The police were able to trace the suspect after he was seen wearing a pair of the stolen shoes and had a stolen phone in his pocket.
The quick thinking of the police officers led to the recovery of some of the stolen items and the arrest of the suspect.
