Death has been announced of former Minister of Information and Broadcasting Mwansa Kapeya in Zambia.

Kapeya, one of the founders of the Patriotic Front (PF) died on Monday after a short illness, according to the statement released and signed by Given Lubinda.

“It is with a deep sense of shock and sorrow that I announce the death of Hon Mwansa KAPEYA who passed on today in Lusaka after a short illness.

“Hon KAPEYA was a founding member of the Patriotic Front and served the Party in various portfolios including that of Provincial Chairperson for Muchinga Province and Member of the Central Committee,” reads in part the statement.

Lubinda described the death of Kapeya as big loss to the party.

“His demise is a huge loss to the Party and the nation as he was a reservoir of knowledge and experience on governance, national building, culture and broadcasting.

“I wish on behalf of the Patriotic Front to convey my heartfelt condolences to the KAPEYA family, the Patriotic Front and the people of Zambia on this loss. Our hearts and prayers are with you all,” added Lubinda.

Meanwhile, funeral details are still sketchy at the moment.
