The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has blamed intermittent blackouts as the greatest obstacle in revenue collection.

The statement has been made in Blantyre as MRA commemorates its 23rd year of existence in in the country.

MRA Commissioner General, John Bizwick, disclosed that they have collected K553.58 billion from October last year to January this year.

He also added that K391.81 billion was collected in the third quarter, missing the K396.63 billion target while K161.1 billion was collected in January this year, beating the K145.7 billion target.

Meanwhile, MRA has commended the improvement in fuel importation as it has been one of the positive factors in revenue collection.
