The Agriculture Development and Marketing Corporation (ADMARC) has embarked on transporting maize grains from its reserves to depots across the country.

ADMARC head of administration and human resources, Ethel Zilirakhasu, has confirmed the development saying that government has committed some funds to transport the commodity.

Meanwhile Center for Social Concern Programs Officer, Bernard Mphepo has commented with hope saying that the availability of maize in the state grain marketer depots will lower maize prices which have risen steeply in the local market.

In January this year, the grain marketer officials engaged the parliamentary committee on public accounts where it disclosed that at least K400 million is needed to move maize from its reserves to the depots.

However, some local traders are selling maize grains at k750 per kilogram in various districts of the country.
