Police in Salima have arrested a 26-year-old man, Ronald Kabwazila, for allegedly impersonating a police officer, particularly Head of Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Kasungu.

According to Salima Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Jacob Khembo, the accused was arrested on Sunday after a report that he introduced himself as head of CID for Kasungu Police at a hotel he booked.

According to the police publicist, the accused alleged to have come with friends who were in other lodges to investigate a certain case which occurred in Kasungu.

“During the evening of February 18, 2023, Kabwazila demanded the receptionist to move with him around the lodge premises so that he becomes familiar with the place,” he said.

He further told the receptionist that he had a handcuff and pistol in his room. Not satisfied with his demands and explanations, the receptionist tipped her boss who also informed police about the incident.

Police rushed to the scene where they also conducted search in the booked room and discovered a brand new knife and later arrested him.

When quizzed by police, he revealed that he was a kabaza (bicycle taxi) operator at Gundani Location in Kasungu and was in Salima to visit Livingstonia Beach.

Kabwazila who comes from Ntamba Village in Traditional Authority Kaomba in Kasungu District, will appear in court soon to answer the charge of impersonating a police officer.
