Edward Msendawana, a 30-year-old man, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by the Limbe First Grade Magistrate’s court for his role in a robbery that took place in Bvumbwe.

Msendawana was found guilty of robbing a dairy farmer of K6,750,000 in cash, an offence that contravenes Section 301(2) of the penal code.

The court heard that Msendawana, together with three others who are already serving their sentences and others who are still at large, committed the robbery on May 12, 2022.

According to court records, the complainant was on his way to a dairy bank where he intended to pay the farmers, when Msendawana and his accomplices, armed with panga knives and a pistol, attacked him and made off with the cash.

During the sentencing, the State prosecutor called for a stiff punishment, stating that the offence was serious and that the dairy farmer suffered a total loss as the stolen money was not recovered.

The court agreed with the prosecutor and sentenced Msendawana to 14 years in prison.
