Police at Monkey Bay in Mangochi have arrested Leonard Jailosi, 25, for vandalising and attempting to steal ESCOM copper wire.
Monkey Bay Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Alice Sichali, says the incident happened on 26 February, 2023 at around 20:00 hours at Chantulo trading centre in the district.
“It is reported that on the said date, some by-passers heard a strange sound from a nearby maize field and when they followed up, they found some people cutting copper wires at the transformer with an intent to steal them.”
“One suspect was caught on the spot while his accomplices fled from the scene and was found with a hacksaw, a knife and a pair of insulator gloves,” said Sichali.
