Police authorities in Mchinji have warned the general public not taking the law into their hands through mob justice as it jeopardizes crime investigations.

This comes following the killing of a 35 year old man on suspicion that he was stealing chickens in Lupunga village in the district.

Spokesperson for Mchinji Police Limbani Mpinganjira has said that the deceased identified as was assaulted to death on Monday after he was caught stealing the chickens.

According to Mpinganjira, the suspect was heavily beaten and dumped along the gravel road before the matter was reported to police and the postmortem results revealed that death of the suspect was due to hemorrhage.

Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation to arrest the perpetrators of the mob justice and they have promised to arrest anyone connected to the death.
