Former Malawian Information Minister Henry Mussa and former Director of Information Gideon Munthali are awaiting a ruling from Judge Patrick Chirwa in a case involving the theft of computers and a generator from the Ministry of Information.

The two were arrested last October and have been on remand at Maula Prison since their conviction.

During their oral submissions last week, the State argued that despite being first-time offenders, Mussa and Munthali committed a serious offense by abusing their office.

The defense side, however, requested leniency on the sentencing, pointing out that the stolen property was recovered and that the two are first-time offenders.

The judge is expected to deliver his ruling today, which will determine the fate of the two former officials.
