Seventy students from Malosa Secondary School in Zomba are currently in police custody for causing extensive damage to school property.
According to the police spokesperson for Zomba police station, Patricia Supriano, six of the students are ring leaders and will be appearing in court soon after investigations.
The students reportedly ran amok yesterday evening after some of them were expelled for being found smoking marijuana on school premises.
The situation escalated quickly, and the students began causing havoc, setting fire to several buildings, including the library, physical science laboratory, generator, and administration blocks.
The police have assured the public that they will thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
