The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has distanced itself from a statement claiming that former President Peter Mutharika will not attend the fundraising dinner and dance set for March 11, 2023 at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre.

One Tuesday, the social media was awash with a statement purportedly issued by Mutharika’s spokesperson Shadreck Namalomba claiming that the party leader will not be available for dinner and dance as earlier announced.

According to the statement, Mutharika is committed to other engagement on the said date.

But DPP Councillor for Blantyre City Soche East Ward Leonard Chimbanga has trashed the statement describing it as fake.

Chimbanga hinted that Mutharika will be available for the dinner and dance.

The Party has organized the dinner and dance with an aim of raising funds which will be used to hold the elective conference set for July this year.

Veteran musician MacDonald Mlaka Maliro, Dan Lu of ‘Lodzani Zanu’ hit song and Gibo Piyasoni will spice the event by performing live at the consent.

Meanwhile tickets for the event are currently on sale
