Police in Rumphi have arrested 23 Ethiopians, one Burundian, and three Malawians for illegal entry and trafficking in persons.

According to Rumphi police station spokesperson Sergeant Tupeliwe Kabwilo, the incident occurred during the early hours of March 8, 2023, at Kafwimbi area inside Nyika National Park.

The three Malawians who were arrested for trafficking in persons have been identified as Brian Mwenitete, 30, and Chimbirani Mhango, 25, both from Traditional Authority Kyungu in Karonga, and Mark Khukulu, 32, of Chatumbwa Village in Traditional Authority Chikulamayembe in Rumphi.

All suspects are currently being held at Rumphi police station as investigations continue.
