State Residences and Malawi Defense Force -MDF have been fated for owing water boards huge sums of water bills.
This has been revealed during the cluster meeting for government authorities, water boards and joint Parliamentary Committees on Agriculture and Food Security and Natural Resources and Climate Change.
According to given data of debts for instance Southern Region Waterboard alone MDF is having water bills amounting to 7.4 billion kwacha, 3.7 billion kwacha unsettled bills for Central region waterboard and 160.8 million kwacha bill for Lilongwe waterboard.
Meanwhile State Residences is having water bills totaling 5.4 billion kwacha as for Lilongwe Waterboard is k3.1 billion and k2.3 billion kwacha for Blantyre waterboard respectively.
However, Co-Chairperson for Cluster meeting, Wellan Chilenga has expressed worry with weight water bills which is frustrating smooth provision of clean water to citizenry.
Chilenga has backed calls to effect new tariffs so that waterboards are not affected in the process.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Sanitation Elias Chimlambe, has assured the committees that the bills will be sorted out once budget get approved.
