Former President Peter Mutharika who is also leader of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is this afternoon cheering up victims of Tropical Cyclone Freddy in the commercial capital Blantyre.

Mutharika started his visit with Matope Primary School in Ndirande Township, one of the locations affected by Cyclone Freddy.

He later visited Samaritan evacuation centre at Green Corner in Blantyre.

In all these places Mutharika was accompanied by DPP’s Presidential aspirant Dalitso Kabambe, former Minister of Agriculture Dr. George Chaponda and DPP regional governor for the South Charles Mchacha.

Cyclone Freddy has so far claimed over 225 lives.
