The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) has given the Malawi Police service 7 days to inquire about the progress of an alleged sodomy related case at Bakelines Limited.
The letter has been written asking Inspector General of Malawi Police Service, Meryn Yolamu to contemplate the report released last year in February saying that there were two young men who were allegedly being sexually abused by their Male boss.
By then, the minister of labor, Vera Kantukule, visited the premises where it was established that the boss was indeed sexually harassing his workers by raping them.
The matter was then, reported to Area 30 Police Station, and thereafter to Kanengo Police Station where it was referred to a hospital and a medical examination confirmed sodomy.
It was then reported that the police got a warrant of arrest and that the police launched investigations.
However, the letter written by the Executive Director for CDEDI Sylvester Namiwa has addressed the Former Minister of Labour Vera Kantukule, Minister of Labour Agness Nyalonje, Homeland Security Minister Ken Zikhale Ng’oma and the Director of Anti-Corruption Bureau to take a step on matter.
Namiwa said, after a year has gone since the issue occurred, people would like to know if any progress is being done on the matter and also disclose the identity and whereabouts of the said suspects.
Namiwa allege that while the issue was being investigated the suspect was kept at a traceable house in Area 10 in Lilongwe while arrangements were being made to help him leave Malawi.
Meanwhile CDEDI has given the Malawi Police service a week to provide the requested information citing failure the organization will take unspecified action to ensure that justice is served on the matter.
