Karonga Police is keeping custody a 28 year-old man for allegedly found in producing fake book documents for motorcycles.
Spokesperson for Karonga Police, Gorge Mulewa has confirmed the development and identified the suspect as Oswald Kawonga.
Mulewa said Kawonga was arrested at at Ekwendeni in Mzimba District following the recoveries of five stolen motorcycles that had fake blue books which he is alleged to have produced.
The arrest of the suspect was prompted following the tip from one of the law enforcers at Ekwendeni.
He further disclosed that the said motorcycles were connected to the cases of motorcycle robberies and murdering of motorcycle taxi operators that happened end of December 2022 and in January this year.
Commenting on the matter, Chairperson of Karonga Motorcycle Taxi Operators Association, Sangwani Mwalwanda commended the police for their efforts in ensuring that the suspects are apprehended.
Meanwhile, social commentator, Lucky Mbewe has also commended police for striving to promote safety and peace in the district.
The suspect will soon appear before court to answer charges he has omitted.
Oswald Kawonga is 28-year-old hails from the Traditional Authority Nthalire in Chitipa District.
