Police in Mangochi have arrested Frank Nasangwe, aged 22, for allegedly stabbing to death 30-year-old Afick Peter during a quarrel over firewood on Monday night.

Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Daudi said the two were separately selling chips at Admarc Market within Mangochi town.

It is alleged that the deceased on the said night took a piece of firewood from the suspect’s fire without his consent a thing which annoyed him.

The two picked a quarrel and in the heat of exchanging words, the suspect produced a knife and stabbed him on the chest and he collapsed.

The matter was reported at Mangochi Police Station and the police patrol team rushed to the scene where Peter was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood.

“Police officers took him to Mangochi District Hospital where he died upon arrival due to internal bleeding,” says Daudi.

According to statistics, this is a ninth case involving killing to have been registered in the district since January this year.
