Vice-President Saulos Chilima has warned officers abusing Tropical Cyclone Freddy relief items that they will face the law once found.
Chilima issued a warning at Mathiya Primary School Evacuation Camp in Thyolo, where some survivors of the cyclone are seeking refuge.
“We are hearing reports that some people want to take advantage of the situation to abuse the allocation of relief items. Once caught, the law will take its course regardless of who you are. Let the relief items reach the intended ones,” he said.
Chilima’s warning follows the arrest of a volunteer in Blantyre who was caught red-handed stealing relief items.
The suspect is currently in police custody.
