Former director of Information, Gedion Munthali has filed a notice of appeal for both his conviction and sentence at the High Court in Lilongwe.

Early this month, High Court Judge Patrick Chirwa sentenced Munthali to three years imprisonment for conspiracy to commit a felony and six years for theft by a public person. The sentences are running concurrently.

A copy of the notice of appeal dated March 16, 2023 states that Munthali is dissatisfied with both the conviction and verdict meted out on him.

The notice further states that the grounds of appeal will be provided later after accessing the court record.

Munthali was convicted and sentenced alongside former minister of Information Henry Mussa in connection with the disappearance of 10 computers and a stand-by generator (genset) belonging to government.

Mussa got to three years imprisonment for conspiracy to steal and fove years for receiving stolen property.
