Tropical Cyclone Freddy has caused a great deal of devastation in Malawi, with the death toll currently standing at 676 as of March 28, 2023.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Disaster, Charles Kalemba, during a press briefing. The number of missing persons is currently at 538 and Kalemba stated that as time passes, the chances of finding them alive are becoming increasingly slim.
In such cases, the Malawi Police Service will eventually declare them as deceased.
This is a tragic situation and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those affected by this disaster.
