Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Walter Nyamilandu has refused to comment on the future of the national team coach Mario Marinica.
The coach has come under heavy criticism following Malawi’s 4-0 loss to Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The defeat has raised questions about Marinica’s ability to lead the team going forward, and many have called for his dismissal.
However, when asked about the coach’s future, Nyamilandu avoided the question and instead said that they were currently focusing on Cyclone Freddy, a recent natural disaster that hit the country. He added that they would issue a press statement later but not on that day.
Marinica’s contract with FAM expires next month, and it remains to be seen whether the association will renew his contract or look for a new coach.
