Following the declaration of state of disaster by President Lazarus Chakwera in appeal for relief assistance for Cyclone Freddy survivors, Teachers Union of Malawi (TUM) has responded and donated some relief items to teachers who have survived the Cyclone Freddy induced disasters.
Program manager for TUM Pilirani Kamaliza has said that said the response, which is under their component of solidarity, is being implemented in four districts namely, Nsanje, Blantyre, Mulanje and Phalombe to about 250 teachers.
TUM has donated bags of maize flour weighing 25 kilograms and cooking oil, to 73 teachers from all 17 education zones.
Chairperson for Nsanje Teachers Union chapter, Jussa Mintrozo expressed gratitude for the gesture.
He alleged that government and humanitarian organizations have been sidelining the teachers since they are on a monthly salary regardless of how badly they have been affected by the cyclone.
