High Court Judge Wezzie Malonda has granted an injunction to Former Board Chairperson of Salima Sugar Company Shirieesh Betgiri, through his lawyer Wapona Kita, restraining the newly reconstituted Board of Directors from taking up their roles.
Lawyer for Betgiri, Wapona Kita has confirmed of the injunction.
According to Kita, the development means the composition of the board will go back to what it was before April 6, 2023.
According to Kita, his client said the appointment of the new directors contravenes the provisions of the Companies Act and the Company’s Memorandum and Articles of Association on appointments of directors.
However, the new Board Chairperson for Salima Sugar Company Wester Kosamu said the company has not been served with any injunction.
The parties are to appear before the Judge on the April 24, 2023 for inter partes hearing.
