Electricity customers in the country have accused Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) for taking so long in restoring its electronic paying system.
The prepaid vending system has been down since Sunday and made it impossible for customers to buy electricity tokens.
Commenting on the matter, country’s energy expert Kandi Padambo has wondered why the utility provider could not have a backup system for eventualities like this system failure.
However, Escom spokesperson Kitty Chinseu has asked more time to comment on the accusation of inefficiencies but has confirmed that technicians were expected to restore the system today – Tuesday 18 April.
Meanwhile Padambo has advised Escom to consider putting in place a backup system that will prevent inconveniencing customers in times of failure.
