Owners of lodges and hotels along Lake Malawi have been advised to temporarily close their business places as the water levels in the lake continue to rise

Chairperson for Tourism Association in Mangochi, Nicolas Dumba, has said that the situation is now bad, and if water continues rise most facilities will be forced to close.

However, Spokesperson for the National Water Resources Authority(NWRA) Masozi Kasambala, said as of Tuesday April 18, 2023, the lake was at 63 centimeters higher than it was last year and the water levels will be rising till end of May 2023, despite that they are now discharging 500 cubic meters of water per second from 300 at Kamuzu Barrage.
