A 43-year-old man from Kampanikiza village in the area of Traditional Authority Masasa in Ntcheu district has been arrested by police for allegedly being found in possession of 21 bags of charcoal without a license.
Godfrey Phiri was apprehended on Tuesday night during a routine patrol by officers from the Lizulu Police Unit. According to Ntcheu Police Spokesperson Rabecca Ndiwate, the police officers stumbled upon Phiri while he was in possession of the 21 bags of charcoal.
Upon being asked to produce the relevant documents for the product, Phiri was unable to do so, leading to his immediate arrest and seizure of the forest produce.
He is currently in police custody and will soon appear in court to answer charges of being found in possession of forest produce without a license.
