Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) district governors in the Central Region have added their voice to calls by some within the party for former president Peter Mutharika to contest in the 2025 general elections as the party’s presidential candidate.

The governors, together with youth directors and women directors from 23 political districts in the Central Region disclosed this during a meeting they had on Friday in Lilongwe.

The meeting was also graced by politician Hetherwick Ntaba, DPP vice president for the region Zeria Chakale and the party’s regional governor for the Centre, David Kambalame.

But Executive Director for Church and Society of the Blantyre synod of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian, Master Jumbe, has questioned if such calls are made in the interest of the nation.

Mutharika is yet to come on the open to declare his interest on the matter.

The opposition DPP scheduled to hold its elective conference this coming July.
