Over 15 thousand workers are on the verge of being rendered jobless at Mgona area 25 in Lilongwe following government’s decision to force back to Dzaleka camp all refugees and asylum seekers.

It has been noted that many youths and women bank their hope on the services such as carrying bags and winnowing Soya among others for the refugees.

Martha Matiki, one of the women working at Mgona has said they are not in agreement with government’s decision as many of them will be left stranded to make their ends meet.

Concurring with Matiki is Rabson Ichocho chairperson for youths at Mgona market who expressed fears that if foreigners such as Burundians will be chased out it means that there will be increased cases of theft.

According to Ichocho on daily basis over 15 thousand labourers are able to find about 20 thousand kwacha which makes them able to support their families.
