A 45-year-old man has been arrested in Blantyre on suspicion that he murdered his wife, Mercy Jones, whose body was found dumped around Baluti Village in the district, without a head and legs.

Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer for Blantyre Police, Peter Mchiza said upon receiving a report of the body’s discovery on April 19, 2023, police launched an investigation, which led to the suspect’s arrest.

“We managed to identify the deceased through her family relations. However, when the suspect was interrogated, he denied the body being that of his wife, saying she had travelled to Zomba to visit a particular relation.

“We later established that the family did not have relatives in Zomba and that the said relation resides in Kanjedza, Blantyre,” said Mchiza.

Mchiza said following eyewitness testimonies by the family’s neighbors, police searched the couple’s house and retrieved a sharp knife which is believed to have been used in the murder.

The suspect, who hails from Kadzumba Village in Chikwawa District, is expected to appear in court to answer murder charges.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been handed over to relatives for burial.
