Nkhata-Bay Police Station, has registered a 48 percent decline in road accidents during the first quarter of 2023.
This is in accordance with the quarterly traffic management report(January-March) that the Research and Planning branch has released.
The report indicates that a total of 27 road accidents were registered resulting into seven fatalities in the first three months of 2022, compared to 14 road accidents whereby 5 people lost their lives in the same period this year.
Police findings have attributed this decline to the station’s intensified efforts of introduction of alcohol detection machine (breathalyzer) that regulates the tendency of drink and drive, intensive traffic checks in all accident prone areas and cooperation of road users with the traffic police officers during enforcement of traffic rules and regulations.
Meanwhile, police in the district are determined to continue their efforts in enhancing road safety awareness. Police further advise the road users to always remain focused and supportive towards enhancement of road safety in the district.
