President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has officially opened the Lilongwe Institute of Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery (LION) at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.

LION, the semi-autonomous trust, is going to offer all musculoskeletal surgeries among other services to patients in need.

The President toured the newly constructed hospital’s Laboratory, General Wards, Paying Wards, and Operational Theatres.

Speaking at the events Chakwera challenged Malawians to take a leading role in developing the country for Malawi to attain her development aspirations of becoming a self reliant nation.

The Malawi leader also commended the government of Norway and the family of Trond Mohn for providing financial support for the construction of the facility and asked Malawians to take good care of it to maximize benefit.
