Police in Chikwawa have confirmed that the district has registered 33 percent decline in road accident during the first quarter of 2023.

This has been revealed in the quarterly traffic management report released by the Research and Planning branch.

According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Chikwawa Police Station Chancy Mfune, from January to March 2023, a total of two road accidents were registered with one considered serious. This is in comparison to three road accidents which occurred in 2022 during the same period, with all the three being fatal.

Police findings have attributed this decline to the station’s intensified efforts in enforcing traffic rules and regulations in all accident prone areas along the M1 road.

Meanwhile, police in the district will continue to work hard in enhancing road safety awareness.
