Alliance for Democracy (AFORD) has pulled out of the Tonse Alliance which is headed by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera.

The development comes barely a week after the party led by its President Enoch Chihana held a public rally in the Capital Lilongwe to celebrate 30 years of existence.

Chihana has confirmed of the development in an interview but the party is yet to inform its fellow partners in the Alliance.

When asked as to why is yet to inform its fellow partners, Chihana said the party is not obliged to inform fellow alliance partners before making a decision on the matter, considering that there is no formal agreement among the alliance members.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) are yet to comment on the matter.
