An agriculture expert has asked government to implement fish farming policy as a way of sustaining and increasing fish production in the country.

The policy’s main objective is to mobilize communities to participate and play an active role in fisheries Management and farming in an effort to address the shrinking sector

Precious Katema, Horace Phiri from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) said from 2018, the levels of production have not gone up due to challenges in accessing high quality inputs as well as the husbandry practices being used by farmers.

Phiri also suggested that it is high time that government should allow more private institutions willing to invest in fish farming in an effort to boost the production
