Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has singled out underfunding to be the biggest blow for the institution to be able to propel safeguard people’s fundamental rights in the country.

This comes as Malawi Human Rights Commission appeared before Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs to enquirer on the challenges affecting the organization.

Executive Secretary for MHRC Habiba Osman, said underfunding is choking most of their operations so that they reach out to everyone in the country.

Meanwhile Osman has indicated that cyclone Freddy in most parts of Southern Region has also affected children’s rights as they are exposed to cases of malnutrition.

On his part, Chairperson for legal affairs committee Albert Mbawala pledged to lobby for more funds so that the institution live up to people’s expectations of protecting their rights.
