A 27-year-old man Faston Chagunda has been arrested in Dowa for allegedly assaulting to death a 56-year-old man whom he suspected of stealing Maize from field belonging to his in-law.
Mponela Police Station spokesperson Macpatson Msadala has said that the suspect was coming from Lipiri Trading Center where he went to watch an English Champions League match and upon reaching his in-law’s maize field, he found Mussa Kapambanya stealing maize.
The suspect then started chasing Kapambanya and when he captured him, he assaulted him to death.
Postmortem conducted by clinical officer from Mbingwa Health Centre revealed that death was due to severe head injury, secondary to assault.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charge of murder, according to Msadala.
