Police in Area 25, Nsungwi, have arrested 34-year-old man Blackson Adams Chunga for harassing and blackmailing his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend.
The suspect had been in the relationship with the woman since December 2022 and during their affair, the two exchanged some pornographic content on WhatsApp.
On May 4, the suspect is said to have used a different phone number to send the woman a video recording which the two recorded a while, back when they were in a relationship.
On that number, Chunga pretended to be his wife Cecilia and threatened the ex-girlfriend that he would leak the video to the public if she does not send K500,000.
Fearing embarrassment, the ex-girlfriend offered her Tecno Spark 6 phone valued at K120,000 to silence the blackmailer but the blackmail and the demands continued until she decided to report to Police.
Kanengo Police Station spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said the police have recovered the cellphone and Chunga, who hails from Dowa, will appear in court soon.
