Police in Mwanza have arrested Mwanza District Hospital attendant Naomi Saiti 36 for stealing medical drugs and equipment.
Mwanza Police Station spokesperson Sergeant Hope Kasakula on Tuesday said on 2 May, 2023 police received a tip from well-wishers that Saiti was seen to be taking drugs home where she was selling to unspecified customers.
“Our criminal investigations personnel ambushed the suspect and caught her at Chipatala Market on her way to meet her customers,” said Kasakula.
He said that upon searching in her handbag she was found with 50 bottles of deprovela and 64 syringes which were suspected to have been taken from the district hospital.
Kasakula also said that when she was asked by the officers where she got them the suspect failed to explain then she was charged with an offence of theft by public servant.
Saiti is expected to appear before Mwanza Magistrate Court soon to answer the charge which is contrary to section 283 of the penal code.
