In a tragic incident, a Zambian businessman was shot and killed during a visit to South Africa. The victim, identified as Mr. Sampa, had arrived in the country on May 14, 2023, for a business trip. His purpose was to purchase fruits and vegetables in City Deep, Johannesburg.

On May 15, Mr. Sampa booked a taxi from central Johannesburg to reach his destination. Unfortunately, the taxi was intercepted by unknown individuals traveling in a Toyota Quantum bus. These assailants opened fire on the taxi, fatally injuring Mr. Sampa. Although they attempted to gain access to the vehicle, it remained locked, forcing them to flee the scene.

The taxi driver swiftly rushed Mr. Sampa to Southrand Hospital, but despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his bullet wounds. Authorities have recovered some of Mr. Sampa’s belongings and a cash amount.

Currently, the Johannesburg forensic pathologists are holding Mr. Sampa’s body for further investigation and a post-mortem examination, which will require a few days. Once the police release the body, Summit Life Undertakers will make arrangements for its repatriation to Zambia.

The funeral gathering will take place at Plot 21, 476 Chalala, Chilenje, Lusaka, Zambia, providing an opportunity for family, friends, and acquaintances to pay their respects.

Local authorities have opened a police case at Moffatview Police Station in Johannesburg to investigate the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
