Police in the Northern region have arrested a 39-year-old man identified as Geoffrey Chavula for a series of car thefts.
According to Sub-Inspector Augustus Nkhawzi, the deputy police spokesperson for the North, there has been a rise in car theft cases since March this year, with Chavula pretending to be a job seeker as a driver and failing to return the vehicles.
Nkhawzi stated that the police have received numerous reports of car thefts related to Chavula, and they have managed to confiscate six vehicles from him.
Chavula would reportedly remove radios, tires, and batteries from the stolen vehicles. The confiscated cars include a Toyota Voxy, Toyota Vista, Nissan Otti, Toyota Duet, Nissan Tilda, and Honda Fit.
Nkhawzi has urged the people of Malawi to conduct thorough background checks on potential employees before hiring them.
