The Malawi Human Rights commission (MHRC) has observed some gaps on the implementation and compliance of the access to information Act among various government stakeholders in the country.

The observation has come at a time when the Parliamentary Committee on Media and information engaged board members from Roads Authority, public procurement and disposals of assets PPDA and ESCOM in order to enquirer on the challenges affecting the utilization of the Act.

Chisi Peter Chisi Director of Civil and Political Rights for the commission, singled out, failure to report to the nation assembly, unavailability of procedures for handling Access to information and lack of enough resources as some of the areas challenging institutions not to comply since the law came into action in 2020.

On her part spokesperson for Roads Authority Portia Kajanga said the authority will also meet its board members in order to fill in the gaps affecting the operation of access to information within the institution.

Meanwhile, Susan Dossi chairperson for the committee says the committee will consider drafting the solutions for the gaps in the law for further amendment by the nation assembly Inorder to enhance proper usage of the law between the general public and government institutions.
