Vice President Saulos Chilima has arrived at court in Lilongwe, where he is expected to appear before Chief Resident Magistrate Madalitso Khoswe Chimwaza, over charges related to the Zunneth Sattar corruption scandal.

Today, the court is expected to give directions on how the case will proceed.

Chilima was charged with Six counts bordering on corrupt practices by public officer, advantage for using influence with regard to contracts and failure to make a full report to officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau.

He is accused of corruptly receiving US$280, 000 from Zunneth Sattar and US$19 million for allegedly assisting Sattar’s company to get a contract from Malawi Defense Force and Malawi Police Service.

The ACB wants the matter committed to the financial crimes court.
