The Parliamentary Committee on Education has expressed dissatisfaction with the prolonged delays in the construction of various facilities at the Malawi College of Health Sciences in Lilongwe funded through the Sector Wide Approach.
The sentiment were made during a meeting involving representatives from the Secretary of the Treasury, the Ministry of Health, and the Presidential Delivery Unit aimed at assessing the progress of constructing the facilities that were part of the Infrastructure Development project, funded through the Sector Wide Approach.
Since 2013, the project aimed at constructing several structures, including hostels, an administration block, a lecture theater, and a library, among others has registered slow progress a situation which has disappointed the committee.
Brenex Kaise Chairperson for the parliamentary committee on education said the delays in completing the facility will cost the Malawi government as the value of materials have now gone up.
However, Sanderson Kuyeli the head of infrastructure for the Ministry of Health has attributed insufficient funding as a contributing factor to the delays
