Information reaching publication indicate that Police in Nsanje are hunting for Peter Tembo, nicknamed Chikwama Wallet, who escaped from lawful custody on Wednesday.
Nsanje Police Station spokesperson, Agnes Zalakoma said Tembo was arrested for alleged house breaking and appeared in court on Wednesday.
She went on to say the escape happened when he was being taken back to Nsanje Prison by police officers on foot, together with other prisoners.
Zalakoma said upon reaching Nsanje Prison Ground the suspect managed to uncuff himself and ran away.
She explained that the suspect jumped onto a motorcycle which had stopped at a distance, after which, it immediately sped off.
According to the police, all efforts to go after the motorcycle proved futile.
She also added that a key that was used to unlock the handcuffs was found on the scene.
Tembo, 26, hails from Nthukuso Village, Senior Chief Malemia, in the district.
