Senior Chief Sitola of Machinga district suspended over alleged compromise on religious matters.
Qadria Muslim Association of Malawi (QMAM) Machinga Chapter requested his removal due to accusations of closing mosques and demanding money for mosque construction.
Paramount Chief Kawinga confirmed the suspension and appointed Group Village Head Sitola as interim Chief.
Other parties, including the Ministry of Local Government, have been notified.
Chief Kawinga emphasized the importance of traditional leaders focusing on their duties and avoiding compromises on religious agendas.
Former Chief Sitola declined to comment on the matter.
