The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Zomba has convicted and sentenced a 28 year old man to 21-years imprisonment for defiling his 2-year old niece.

Zomba Police Spokesperson Patricia Sipiliano has identified the convict as Person Wilson.

Sipilano told the court that on 8 December 2022, the convict invited the victim to his house where he defiled her. He then threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Despite being warned, the victim revealed the ordeal to her mother after failing to endure the pain she was feeling in her genital. The matter was later reported to police who referred the victim to Chingale health center for medical examination where results confirmed that she was defiled.

Appearing in court, Wilson asked for forgiveness saying he had repented and would never commit such offence again.

Passing the sentence, Senior Resident Magistrate Yohane Banda handed him a 21-year jail term saying as an uncle, he was responsible to protect the minor.

Person Wilson  hails from Kawerama Village, Traditional Authority Nanyumbu in Machinga.
