Three men have been arrested by Police in Lilongwe for being found in possession of two pistols and 12 rounds of live ammunition without a license at Airwing, Mbavi location.

Information shared by police has identified the suspects as Alex Chipiliro, 29, John Edward, 25, and Waiti Yamikani, 35, all from Kwenengwe village, Traditional Authority Bvumbwe in Thyolo district.

It has indicated that through intelligence collection, Lilongwe Police detectives found out that the first suspect, Alex Chipiliro, was keeping a rifle and the law enforcers raided his house last Friday at Airwing and they found a pistol and ten live ammunition before arresting Chipiliro and Edward, who were together at that particular time.

“During interrogation at Area 3, Chipiliro revealed that another pistol was in the custody of the third suspect at their home village in Thyolo district and a follow up was made by a team of detectives on Saturday to Vumbwe in Thyolo where they successfully recovered one pistol and two live ammunition, and taken into custody Waiti Yamikani,” said the information.

Currently, Police said Investigations are underway to further establish where the suspects got these dangerous weapons, and if ever used in committing crimes elsewhere.

They are expected to appear in court soon to answer a case of Found In Possession of Offensive Weapons ( Firearms) Without a License.
