Police at Jenda have arrested a mother Mercy Nyirongo and her teenage girl on suspicion of killing an unborn child at Chamaji village in Mzimba.

The daughter was eight months pregnant and she procured herbs to terminate it. When the teenager consulted the mother, she did not say anything which to her meant she had consented to the idea and she went on to terminate the pregnancy by taking the herbs.

Members of the community reported the matter to Champhira police post which led to the arrest of the two for killing unborn child which is contrary to section 231 of the penal code.

The will appear before court soon.
