The Malawi Education Ministry is gearing up to train and recruit more Special Needs Specialist teachers in an effort to reach out to more schools in the country.
Deputy Director of Inclusive Education Lucy Magagula has confirmed that a group of 150 students have already graduated with diplomas in Special Needs Education.
The newly-graduated specialists will soon be sent to various institutions to provide the necessary support to needy learners.
Magagula also revealed that a total of 360 students are currently enrolled in Special Needs Specialist training at Montfort and Machinga Colleges.
In addition, 200 students have been recruited for a one-certificate course in Inclusive Education.
The ministry’s efforts to train more Special Needs Specialist teachers are in line with the Malawi Agenda 2063, which stipulates the implementation of human capital development.
Over 5,000 inclusive teachers have already been oriented on Inclusive Education.
