President Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in China to attend the 3rd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo to take place in Changsha city in Hunan Province from June 28 to July 2, 2023.

Chakwera, accompanied by the First Lady Monica Chakwera, left Malawi on Tuesday afternoon through Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe.

The Malawi leader was officially invited by the Chinese government as the guest of honour.

Posting on his social media pages on Tuesday, Chakwera said he would seek cooperation on a number of areas including health, poverty reduction, agricultural development, trade promotion, digital innovation, green development, peace and security.

He also said he would use the opportunity to lobby with China for support towards Malawi’s debt restructuring plan that aims at improving Malawi’s debt sustainability.
